Dear forum members,

In behalf of Rangefinderfilipinas (RF), I would like to welcome everyone to this newly upgraded forum.  Finally, we have set the stage for self-sufficiency. For some time now, we have been generously hosted by a friend of RF, Mike Dougan.  The long-delayed plan to stand on our own feet has finally arrived. Rain Contreras, Bing Tan and Jef Jacob have given time, talent and treasure to make this a reality.  The challenge we now face is how we can keep this going.  The forum is free for everyone to enjoy but the server where it stands is not.  The members of Rangefinderfilipinas, the organization, are financing the upkeep of the forum so we can continue to spread our passion for classic photography.

I would also like to remind everyone to keep the forum a great informative and enjoyable "tambayan" ("tahanan" for some like Jef, perhaps).  And given its youth and the passion we have for the art form, expect heavy moderation.  Medyo bago pa ang forum at medyo bago pa ang samahan, kaya't kailangan ng alalay. In more than a year, we have learned a lot about the power and weaknesses of the forum. We expect everyone to keep a respectful and polite attitude towards each other.  And, given the nature of internet, we will need Big Brother/s (read: Moderators) to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable in spite of differences in opinion, the crazy banter between Jef, Iver and Ian, the search for the perfect xiao long bao that infiltrates almost all threads, and the rare lousy photo that will hopefully become extinct as we grow in technique and, in the little french that Buck knows, intimite'. (Actually, Buck is more fluent in Niponggo, so --shitashii).

Welcome to this online community of classic photography advocates... and enjoy.

Mga Ka-cosa:

It is now time for all of us to step up to the plate and commit ourselves to sustain the site "so we can continue to spread our (shared) passion for classic photography."

Contributions may be in the form of shared time and skill, as demonstrated earlier by Rain, Bing, and JefJac,  or of resources, such as monthly/yearly dues, etc.  I am not an IT person but I know that if we want the camaraderie and the learning to continue, we all must do our share to nurture the forum.  I suggest that we all share our ideas, opinions and discuss this issue of maintaining and sustaining the site, say for a period of 15-30 days, then come to a consensus or a decision thereafter.

Allow me please to start the ball rolling with the question: How much monthly do we have to pay for the server or hosting services?

publishing an RFF monthly magazine will surely generate more popularity among hobbyist / enthusiast who dont have time to go online or unaware of this site. the monthly photos and ideas being contributed by the experience and knowledgeable people in this site are enough to fill a monthly issue of a photo magazine. I've read lots of writtings by the like of Jay Javier that could definitely rival most popuar writers in PI (be it concerning photography or general issues). the profit will surely help in financing the maintenance of this site.

i dont know the in and out of publishing a magazine (finance, resources, connection),, baka nga naisip nyo na rin to, pero suggest ko na rin..

there are lots of photo magazine that exist in the market but most of them are primarily about selling digital gears and digital manipulation using photoshop. very rare to find something about street photography, films, processing & developing techniques. RFF magazine could make a difference, it could bring back the good old days of shooting and developing films. mauuso na ulit ang film at dadami na tindahan na pwede pagbilhan (libre naman mangarap.. he he he)

' suggestion lang po...

How about a web-based magazine where one subscribes (for a fee) to receive his emailed/linked magazine?  I used to subscribe (US$20 per year) to one when i was with the environment department.  Global pa ang potential for subscription.  I however have not idea how/how much to set this up.

The payment of Php 1,000.00 annual membership fee will cover the hosting fee.
Please contact Maan Dimla on how to make the payment.

Apologies for nitpicking, but perhaps it would be better if we layout the provisions when we advertise and enforce the Php1,000.00 membership fee? Added perks and benefits, immunity from persecution from blackmail material, and the like? Smiley Just so that we would be clear not only when sustaining current patronage but also when attracting new membership as well.

What will be announced will the "perks" of being a member, not how the Php 1,000 will be spent.
So far, the amount is random, based on the immediate necessity to pay for the forum.

I would also probably like to share that being a Rangefinder Photographer is different from being a forum member. Rangefinder Photographers shall be by invitation.

On the one hand, forum members who wish to support the forum's sustainability through donations shall be accepted. Guys, every bit helps. Getting the forum going needs money and everyone who thinks they've gotten a bit of something worth giving back to the community to would be deeply appreciated by the people who try to keep this project going.

Thank you so much.
